Since day one of applying to college I have always known that I wanted to study abroad. One of the reasons that I especially picked Delaware, was because of the 7 week period in between the Fall and Spring Semesters. While living in a foreign country for several months seems like a dream, I didn’t want to have to give up a semester at Delaware for it. So I thought that the 7 week break was a perfect opportunity to study somewhere. The process of studying abroad (at least for the winter session) begins about a year in advance. So this winter break I did some research to figure out where I really, really want to go. My heart is set on heading to Australia to continue studying my major. I’d like to do the trip that splits the time between Australia and New Zealand. I want to eat the food, the fruit, see the great barrier reef, go sky diving again and especially LIVE on the beach. And of course find some kangaroos and koala bears too! While studying abroad is definitely extra money to pay, it is something that I believe my college experience would not be complete without. I’m looking forward to the application process this Spring and crossing my fingers to be accepted to head to Australia in January of 2013!
This winter session I had a perfect vision for how my five weeks were going to go..
1. Relaxing, Stress-free
2. A solid A in my class
3. Have lots of free time to hang out with friends
4. Kill it in ad sales for my internship
5. Go to the gym everyday
…until I got Mono. Usually when I get sick at school I can take care of myself and with a little bit of extra effort stay on top of my tasks. However, with mono I am completely pathetic and helpless. I flew home today to recover for the week and try to get better before second semester starts. While I’m not exactly the most delightful person right now, I am EXTREMELY grateful I am not going through this during the regular semester. I guess I had to tough it out at some point so it might as well be when I don’t have a ton of responsibilities and it’s freeeezing out! Crossing my fingers to get better soon so I can go back to school.
P.S. GO PATS!!!
So I am taking a winter online class this winter session to pass the next 5 weeks of my time. I’ll be testing on campus in Delaware, but since my testing week doesn’t start until next week I will still be enjoying the comfort of my own bed and food while I watch my lectures at home. I originally wasn’t super thrilled with the idea of taking a class online, let alone Philosophy but I’ve decided there are a few perks.
1. I can take my tests any time of the day, any day of my designated week that I want.
2. I can stay at home for a little bit longer.
3. It costs less money than a regular class
4. I can go to class anytime of the day that I want..aka I can continue sleeping til the late hours of the afternoon!
5. If I take terrible notes for one day I can go back to re-watch a lecture.
6. I can fast forward the monotonous parts of the lectures where a professor will repeat himself.
I’m not entirely excited/ready for school work again but I’m thankful I do have something to do with my time for the next 5 weeks until Spring Semester!!
